Overview
Fibre optic links are the backbone of any campus, multi-floor office, or data centre. We install OS2 single-mode for long-haul and inter-building links (up to 40 km on dark fibre), and OM4 multi-mode for high-density inter-floor or in-rack runs (10 Gbps to 550 m, 40 Gbps to 150 m). Splicing, termination, and patching are all done in-house — we don't subcontract the bit that matters most.
We handle blown-fibre microducting, direct-buried armoured cable, internal LSZH runs, and pre-terminated MPO trunks for data-centre top-of-rack scenarios. Termination options include pre-polished SC/LC connectors, fusion splicing into pigtailed cassettes, and field-installable mechanical connectors for rapid repair work. Every link is tested with a Fluke OptiFiber Pro OTDR with full bidirectional traces, plus loss readings to TIA-568-C.3 / IEC 61280.
Typical use cases: connecting a comms room on one floor to the MDF on another, linking two buildings on a campus over an existing duct, deploying a 10G or 40G top-of-rack network, or providing diverse-route fibre to an external carrier handoff for resiliency. We coordinate with your incumbent ISP, structured cabling contractor, and building services team so the link goes live cleanly.
Frequently asked questions
- Single-mode or multi-mode — which do I need?
- Multi-mode (OM4) is cheapest for short links inside or between buildings on a campus where you need ≥10 Gbps. Single-mode (OS2) is the right choice for long links (>550 m), high-bandwidth backbones (40/100 Gbps), or anything that needs to scale beyond the next refresh. We recommend on the survey based on actual distances and bandwidth roadmap.
- Do you do fibre splicing on site?
- Yes — we splice in-house with a Fujikura 90S+ fusion splicer. Splice losses are typically <0.05 dB and we keep the splice trays in-rack so future moves and changes don't require digging up cabinets.
- Can you provide an OTDR trace for an existing link I suspect is faulty?
- Yes — fault-finding visits include a full bidirectional OTDR trace and a written report identifying break points or excessive losses with metre-accurate distance markers. Most call-outs are completed within 24 hours.
